If we don’t make any money, there can’t be a mission.
– John Gallagher, The Uncommon Leader Podcast
That line stayed with me because as leaders called to do meaningful work in the world, as coaches, entrepreneurs, creatives, and visionaries, we often find ourselves torn between the pull of purpose and the reality of profit.
The truth is we all carry money stories, beliefs from our upbringing, culture, or past that shape how we relate to wealth.
And if your story, painted money as selfish or greedy… I want to offer you this reframe:
Money without a mission can lead to greed.
But money in service of a mission? That’s when it becomes a force for good.
Because money without direction inflates ego.
And money with intention? It amplifies impact. It gives your vision roots and wings. When you’re deeply rooted in your mission, money doesn’t define you, it actually empowers you.
It allows your message to travel farther, your vision to scale, and your generosity to expand. So yes, make the money but root it in something eternal.
Let it serve the mission, not replace it.
